June 27th - Danmarks Rederiforening As previously informed on shippingyouth.com, our first event took place the 27th of June in the historical environment of Amaliegade 33 home of Danish Shipowners' Association. The evening proceded with a short introduction by the chairman Philip Overby, who also introduced the mainspeaker: Peter Bjerregaard Managing Director of Danish Shipowners' Association. Mr Bjerregaard expressed the current position of Denmark as a leading Shippingnation, and also gave his full support of initiatives like our association Shipping Youth. After Mr. Bjerregaards speach, Mr. Overby took over and shortly informed the participants of the main course of our association, and introduced the rest of the boardmembers. Furthermore Mr. Overby informed of the homepage and how we hope to be able to expand and renew our present homepage with login, forums and blogs. These inititives will hopefully ensure the growth of both the networking and our association in general. Three of the boardmembers, Mr. Gimand, Mr. Overby and Mr. Dalsgaard are looking forward to stationings in other countries than Denmark, Christian Grønlund has been temporarily appointed chairman and Trine Mortensen as boardmember. Please welcome and support the two. Mr. Grønlund gave a short introduction to what to expect of the event in the fall 2007 and in spring 2008. The spring event will mainly focus on different possibilities to get further education within the shipping business. After this serious first half of the event participants were shown to the refreshments and all made a great effort to expand their network. All in all the event must be described as a success and a special thank you goes to Danish Shipowners' Association and those members who defied the weather and made our first event memorable.
